| Glenwood Springs most famous
attraction is the Hot Springs Pool. Spend lazy days by the pool, do laps
even perfect your Scuba diving skills! The facility is comprised of two
pools: · a smaller therapy pool, kept at a toasty 104 degrees, is a gathering place for adults (take a book and spend the afternoon) · a big pool, which children prefer where the water is 90 degrees, 2 water slides empty into this one, water toys are everywhere. · the pools are open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Glenwood is an outdoor person's heaven, you can go rafting, hiking, biking, golfing, river rafting, skiing and snowboarding (seasonal) and of course swimming year round. There are some great shops along their main street (State Hwy. 82), it is also the road to Aspen so expect it to be crowded with tourists during tourist seasons. Don't forget to check out notorious gambler and gunfighter Doc Holliday's grave at Pioneer Cemetery. (It's a 1/2 mile hike up the side of the hill but the view is incredible!) You're likely to find many items placed on his grave stone. The day we went, there was a pint of Jack Daniels (empty of course), a bullet, flowers and part of a deck of cards. The fire of July 1994 on Storm King Mountian will always be remembered by the two memorials. Visit Storm King Mountain Trail and hike the 1.5 (moderately difficult) miles to the site where 14 firefighters lost their lives. The other memorial is located at Two Rivers Park. |
